Winton’s apiphobia

(fear of bees)

When he was 18, Winton suffered 137 bee stings when he accidentally fell upon a wild beehive in the NZ bush. He came running out of the bush, threw himself onto the ute, and yelled at his brother-in-law (who was still in the vehicle) to “drive, and FAST!” The nearest medical center was 20 minutes drive away and, when they arrived, Winton had swollen up so much he was unrecognisable.
After multiple shots of adrenaline were administered and after approximately one month, Winton made a full recovery.

This was the start of Winton’s apiphobia (fear of bees).
