What’s to know?

Meeting Winton and Tina you realise they are very passionate about saving the bees. Both will use every opportunity to talk to people about the importance of caring about these mighty little pollinators – not using pesticides, having a good water source and planting bee-friendly plants!

It’s not just about selling honey, made from all the diverse flora abundant here in the best place in the world! It’s all about their pet bees. The bees do such a great job; we can’t not respect their honey. Which is why… EcoValley Honey doesn’t heat-treat it or overstrain it. Next to raw honeycomb, it’s about as close as nature intended. It’s got all the ‘goodies’ – pollen, propolis and sometimes a little wax but that’s the nature of honey. And with the small batch harvesting, it’s like a fingerprint – no two are the same.

Tina

Processing & Marketing

Tina helps with processing, marketing, and local markets, etc. She loves the community interaction and has said to a few people, “If I won lotto, I would still do the local markets.”

Tina actually has a slight allergy to bees but that doesn’t diminish her love of bees or the factthat “we all need to do our part to save them.” Tina has admitted to putting a dab of honey on her hand if a stray bee looks tired and comes close when no other flowers are present, or if it finds a way into their house! (Umm… Crazy bee lady!)

Winton

Beekeeper

Winton is exceptionally motivated, super-passionate about bees and does the majority of the hard yards. In keeping with our save the bees ethos, Winton can often be seen buzzing around Esperance in springtime, rescuing and rehoming new swarms.

Beginnings: Winton had a major run-in with bees in his late teens. He became a beekeeper some years ago when he discovered a bee swarm on his property. The beekeeper that came to look at it said to Winton “there’s your first hive!” It was the start of conquering his apiphobia and developed into a passion for the bees and a hobby that was to become a hive of activity!

Raw Honey

At the risk of being unpopular, we think that shifting truckloads of beehives around has the potential to decimate the bee population. A virus shared is NOT a virus halved! And… there is evidence to support this, as follows:
‘Reducing bee movements and mixing bee populations may improve biosecurity, with less chance of disease transfer. It may also reduce energy consumption and the carbon footprint from lower emissions, capital investment and less hive handling and possibly reduce beekeeper fatigue.’

We Believe in Quality

Starting off as a one-hive hobby some years ago, slowly building the hive numbers up, and with friends and family providing positive feedback for the amazing honey gifts, it made sense to finally progress into a business in 2018. From there, EcoValley Honey has garnered a discerning customer base who are passionate about gourmet honey, and after ‘that little bit more…’
